ABOUT Us

Introduction

Stoas University of applied sciences and teacher education is the only Dutch Agricultural Professional University for teachers, trainers and extension specialists in Education and knowledge management. It is totally ruled by the Government.

Stoas University trains students in becoming professionals in the transfer of knowledge in the field of agriculture (agribusiness), horticulture (floral design and retail, landscaping and gardening), food technology, animal breeding and keeping etceteras.
Graduates from the four-year programme or University (foreign) students from the one-year programme become Bachelor of Education. This degree is state granted for citizens of the European Union and recognised by companies and civil authorities as an excellent base for practical upper and middle management functions in education, training en extension.

To ensure high quality education Stoas has a professional staff and extensive facilities to support students getting the most out of their studies.

At Stoas University, studying implies not only listening, reading or repeating, students mainly work on achieving competencies. Competencies are those skills, attitudes and knowledge that make employees successful in their jobs and in society.

Needed competencies

A future teacher, trainer or consultant needs to have:

  • Good knowledge of pedagogical and didactical developments;
  • The skills to transfer knowledge;
  • Professional skills in his or her field of expertise.
  • First-hand knowledge of (international) business practice and chain management, and specific information to meet the demand for adaptive management in the changing business climate in their country.

Achieving those competencies

Our short term and long term courses train the necessary competencies. We can offer a variety of opportunities to study or to teach in our modern learning environment.

Stoas students study with their mind, their heart and their hands. Practical 'hands on' experience is an integral part of Stoas studies to compliment theoretical learning.

For University students a one-year programme results in a Bachelor Degree in Education if the student met the preliminary requirement. It is the equivalent of the final specialisation year of the programme that normally takes four years to complete.

Competent professionals

Stoas graduates are appreciated worldwide. Both the business community and agricultural education are desperately in need of Stoas graduates. Employers know that Stoas qualified students have benefited from sound, realistic and practical tuition.
